Description
From clayey marl, limestone and sandy soils of a south-facing, gently rising vineyard, the 2020 Saulheimer Probstey Spätburgunder opens with a deep, intense and spicy as well as refined and beautifully pure bouquet of dark fruits that are well interwoven with toasty and saline nuances. The generosity of the nose is reflected on the palate, which is full-bodied, rich and lush. This is a very elegant and refined Pinot Noir with fine, mineral acidity intermingled with delicate, crunchy tannins. The finish is long and intense, finely saline and beautifully balanced.

Vineyard: Saulheim Probstey
The Probstey single vineyard was first mentioned in the 13th century, when the famous Rheingau abbey Kloster Eberbach and Kloster Sankt Maria zu Mainz owned some of the best parcels of this vineyard. The Probstey is a windy, south-facing slope with up to 35% gradient and a very warm microclimate.
Soil Type
The yellow sand and limestone soils result in rich, full-bodied wines, balanced with precise acidity. The Grand Cru wines from Pinot Noir and Silvaner from this vineyard are considered to be among the very best wines in Germany of this grape variety every year.
