Vineyard

Ktima Avantis Collection is the best vineyards of the Estate with a total area of 1.2 hectares, on a steep slope with an incline of 30%. It is a single vineyard located at an altitude of 250m. in the forest of Afrati in Central Evia, below Mount Dirfi 1750m. This particular estate was planted 30 years ago with the clone 470 ENTAV. The vineyards have a north-south orientation. The soil is excessively poor, loamy with granite stones and good drainage. The combination of poor soil and excellent sunshine during the day, with coolness at night due to the cold air masses coming down from the mountain, give very low yields per hectare of 2000 kgr\He with excellent concentration, but also freshness of the fruit. The result of all the above and the careful winemaking with minimal intervention (wild yeasts, long extractions) is a terroir wine of intensity and personality.

Yield: 20 hl/ha

Soil Type

Clay, sandy clay loam with granite stones and good drainage

Vinification

Classic red vinification. Alcoholic fermentation and extraction for 25 days.

Maturation

Barrel aging for 18 months in new French oak barrels of 225 ltr. The Collection is bottled unfiltered.

Oak influence: The Collection matures in new French oak barrels for 18 months. We use barrels of 225 lt. by Seguin Moreau Cooperage (type ICON). The reason we choose to use new barrels is that the aromatic richness and flavour concentration of the Collection are of such intensity that they need the intense characteristics of oak (spices and vanilla) so that all aromatic and tasty elements coexist in harmony. Using these barrels we aim for the evolution of the fruit and the polymerisation of tannins.
