Vineyard: Ungeheuer
The Forster Ungeheuer site has a particularly diverse soil structure. Lime marl, red sandstone and basalt boulders result in complex Rieslings with great ripeness and firm body. The location in the middle of the slope, protected from westerly winds, results in optimum ripeness and balancing acidity. The wines show a fine fruitiness (peach, apricot, pineapple) with beautiful minerality and often considerable density and weight.
Soil Type
Lime marl, red sandstone and basalt boulders.
Vinification
Multiple selective hand harvests. After a short maceration period, the golden yellow Riesling berries were gently pressed and allowed to enter the fermentation cellar by means of gravity. After controlled fermentation in oak casks, the wine was aged mainly in large wooden barrels on the fine lees.
