Vineyard

The Chardonnay is grown in our Hidden Terrace vineyard, situated on a high bench in British Columbia's southern Okanagan Valley. The vineyard sits at 430m of elevation, making it a cooler site for this southern edge of the valley. This shapes the wine, resulting in a lean and restrained expression of the grape.

Harvest Notes

Hand harvested in early September of 2020. Fruit is sourced from a single block of Clone 76 Chardonnay.

Vinification

Whole bunch pressed using extended press cycles of four to eight hours. The juice is transferred to directly to barrel without settling, and then fermented with naturally occurring yeasts. .

Malolactic fermentation: 30% of the wine underwent malolactic conversion naturally in the autumn. The remaining barrels were kept in a cool cellar after fermentation to inhibit MLF.

Maturation

Matured in seasoned French oak 500 litre puncheons and barriques for 11 months, and then bottled without fining. No new barrels were used in this blend.

Oak influence: No use of new oak for the 2020 vintage. Barrels and puncheons ranged in age from second fill to fifteen years old.
