Vineyard
Elevation: 100-140 m above sea level. Cool climate with average 800 ml rainfall per annum.
Soil Type
Ancient weathered silty grey loam over a mudstone and calcareous siltstone. The same stone was used to construct the underground cellars at Yeringberg in the 1860s.
Harvest Notes
Following the usual pattern, the Marsanne ripened before the Roussanne, so they were fermented and barrel aged separately. The Marsanne was picked on March 17th and the Roussanne was picked on March 23rd.
Vinification
Each variety was handpicked, sorted, destemmed and crushed before pressing. The juice was fermented in tank, then transferred to old oak barrels as soon as fermentation was finished. The wine then stayed in the same barrels until a couple of days before bottling. There was a little lees stirring over the winter.
Maturation
11 months in older French oak.
