Cosme Palacio 1894 tinto 2018
Description
Intense red with scarlet highlights. A very aromatic nose, of great intensity and purity as a whole, formed by fruity notes, with a predominance of fresh red berries and light floral notes in the background. The barrel adds a mixture of different aromas on the nose such as cinnamon, vanilla, patisserie, pipe tobacco and mineral highlights. The wine shows itself to be powerful, robust, with muscle, enveloping the palate with flavour and texture. A marked vinous character, with well balanced acidity. A harmonious finish, flavourful and with a great persistence of flavour.

Vineyard
Old vines of 70 to 85 years of age and low yields (3.000kg/ha), situated at an altitude of more than 600 metres in small vineyard parcels around Laguardia. Traditional untrained bush vines.
Soil Type
Terrain: the parcels are situated on small terraces with an average gradient of 7.2°. The geography is rough and rugged, perfect for creating wines with a recognisable identity.
Solar radiation: the plots receive the ideal amount of sunlight maximising the correct synthesis of pigments and aromatic compounds.
Vine vigour index: 94, a low to medium value, allowing the production of wines of very high quality.
Vinification
Vinified independently. Alcoholic fermentation: carried out in 1,800 litre tanks with two daily pump-overs to extract colour and homogenise the volume. Fermentation temperature of 24ºC. Maceration: at least 28 days to fully extract all the colour and aromas. Gentle pressing in a wooden vertical press. Malolactic fermentation: takes place in medium-toast 500 litre French oak barrels.
Maturation
15 months ageing in 500 litre French oak barrels in their 1st, 2nd and 3rd year, from the very best cooperages in France.
