Vineyard: Point
: Ried Point is located above the western part of Ried Haussatz. Its presence here was first documented in 1570. Ried Point spans from the Edelhof estate westwards up to the road that links Vienna and Sopron (Hungary), formerly Ödenburg. The Ried was originally an undivided vineyard on the Edelhof estate, as a map from 1850 shows. Its name is derived from Point meaning “being enclosed by a fence”. Count Nikolaus Esterházy lived on the estate around this time while Schloss Esterházy in Eisenstadt was being renovated in the baroque style. Ried Point has a southern aspect and is located on the warmest slope of the Leitha Range. It covers a total area of 7.69 hectares and sits at an elevation of 198 to 212 metres above sea level. Ried Point has a sandy marl soil (lime and clay) that has been built up from scree, giving it a high water storage capacity. The soil allows deep rooting with excellent root penetration. It has a high clay content (30%), while lime content is medium-to-high (between 15 and 35%). As a result, Ried Point is predestined for the Blaufränkisch variety. Some sections of Ried Point closer to the village have been built on, have been reclassified for use, or are prospective development areas.
