Bright ruby. Generous and aromatic fruit characters of raspberry, dark cherry, plum and blueberry compote with exceptional clarity. Boosted by sweet allspice and floral notes of violet and rose. A vibrant palate expresses buoyant fruit on a wave of fine, sandy tannins. The mouthfeel is supple with a savoury finish influenced by oak maturation. This medium bodied wine is fresh, balanced and versatile.
Wirra Wirra has sourced fruit forthe Original Blend from premium McLaren Vale growers in McLaren Flat and Blewitt Springs. The vineyards range from 48 years (Shiraz) to 113 years of age (Grenache).
Brown sandy loam.
Combination of hand and machine harvest.
Vineyard blocks of Grenache and Shiraz were picked and fermented separately. Wines were hand plunged or pumped over twice to four times daily, assisting in flavour and colour extraction and tempering the heat of ferment. Near completion, cap work was reduced to once or twice daily in order to keep the buoyant grape skins moist before pressing. Batches were maintained separately through malolactic fermentation and maturation in either tank or barrel before final selection and blending.
Old/neutral (6+ years) French barriques and puncheons.
