Description

In the glass it is a dark, dense and powerful Pinot. On the nose this is an intensely fruity wine reminiscent of red and black currants as well as cherries. Dry and full-bodied on the palate with firm acidity and marked tannins. A powerful, particularly elegant wine for discerning enjoyment. This wine is a selection from our best Frühburgunder vineyard. Here 10% of the vines produce especially small berries and are only used for this wine. This is the benchmark for Frühburgunder and gained the Vinum "German Red Wine Award 2019".

Harvest Notes

Individual vine selection: in this vineyard we do not look at the vineyard as a whole, but at each individual vine on its own. About 10% of the vines have a natural mutation of small berries, even smaller berries than the rest of the vineyard. Moreover, harvest time is earlier than for the other 90% of this vineyard. From these 10% we create the benchmark for Frühburgunder, our Marienthaler Rosenberg, only in excellent years. Harvest date: 5. September 2019.

Vinification

After 6 days of cold maceration, the must was spontaneously fermented for about 20 days. Then, for a further 14 days in the absence of air, the malolactic fermentation took place on the mash. After 4 days of rest, there was a racking into first and second use barriques. The wine was in barriques for a total of 13 months and was then bottled unfiltered.

Malolactic fermentation: Yes, completely.

Maturation

After 2 years of aging in the bottle, the wine goes on sale with the guidance that it should be allowed to mature for another few years before opening.

Oak influence: The oak gives this wine the necessary structure and helps with colour stabilisation.
Months in bottle: 24

Bottling

Closure: Natural cork
